Facts about Soap

ALL SOAP (those that have the word soap on the label) is antibacterial. It is in the way they are made. Therefore, you don’t need different products around your home, just a bar of soap.

ALL handmade soaps contain glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant, it draws moisture from the air to the skin. You have to make soap in order to get glycerin. That is also why my soaps are moisturizing, they contain glycerin. The early commercial soap making companies got their start because of the need for glycerin. They extract the glycerin, and sell it to other industries. Then the companies add chemicals, some of which clog your pores, back into the soap. In this case, soap is actually a byproduct in their industry and the reason the “commercial bars” are cheaper than handmade soap.

ALL bar soap is made with sodium hydroxide, commonly called “lye”. You have to use lye to make soap. However, today we saponifiers (soap makers) can mathematically calculate the ratio of oils, water and lye to give you a mild and emollient bar. Not the harsh soap our ancestors made. We use a discount (more oils/butters and water) than lye, therefore all of the lye (sodium hydroxide) molecules are used. This insures that there is no "lye" left in the soap. That is why you don’t find sodium hydroxide on my ingredients label. Instead you find the phrase "Saponified oils of [the oils used]"

My Creams, Lotions, Salts, Body Butters, Powders, etc. are also made from scratch.  The only "chemical" in them outside of the occasional Fragrance Oil, is a preservative, and it is for safety, to prevent mold and or bacteria.    The preservative is used in products that either contain water, or where the product comes into repeated contact with your wet hands, like the body butters.  As of yet, there is NO NATURAL PRESERVATIVE, that is safe for the human body.

Note: Soap does not need a preservative.
